A vast amount of those who call themselves Christians have little or no walk with Jesus, though they have a tremendous amount of biblical knowledge. It’s these Christians who give Jesus a bad name. Their words are not backed up by their lives.
A rather famous movie character once said, “There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.” James said the same thing to his believing Jewish brothers scattered throughout the world, “I will show my faith by what I do” (James 2:18).
We absolutely need to be in the Word of God; but we also must walk with the Word of God, Jesus, each day. A healthy believer allows the truths discovered in Scripture to transform their life through actually using that knowledge in their daily decisions empowered by the Spirit.
If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, and looks like a duck, it must be a duck. Today, ask the Spirit to empower you to walk closely with Jesus, not just talk about Him.

PC,
Did David’s life back up his words? He did all kinds of horrible stuff throughout his life, but wasn’t he a man after God’s heart, His friend? Sorry, i’m confused.
Yes, David is called a man after God’s own heart in Acts 13:22. He had a deep love for the LORD, as evident in the many Psalms attributed to him.
His life is a remarkable illustration of the honesty and integrity of Scripture. God shows us the good, the bad and the ugly about the hero’s of the faith. It’s all about God’s love and grace – not us. David had a super deep walk with God; and yet, like us, he strayed at times by taking his eyes off the LORD. His walked was backed up by his talk, because he not only wrote about the upside of walking with the LORD, but he also wrote about the consequences of walking away from God’s path as well (see Psalm 32).
His walk gives us all hope! David’s mistakes didn’t define him. His God did.
Thank you, this helps me. Unfortunately the “church” seems to expect and demand perfection from the moment we accept Christ in our lives, but I’ve seen so many people, including myself, continue to make mistakes, then be put on a guilt trip because we’ve failed. I want my knowledge to transform my actions, but like David, I often take my eyes off the LORD, and it’s comforting to know He will continue in His mercy and grace. Thanks – love you.
